The Paul family live in a detached house in Hampshire which had an old conservatory with a polycarbonate roof. Due to the outdated technology in its roof, the conservatory was never used as it was leaky, mouldy and difficult to heat in winter.
As it was separated from the rest of the home by an internal door, it was easy to close the door and forget that this potentially-valuable living space was even there. As Mrs Paul put it, the old conservatory was “a complete waste of space.”
After driving past the showroom of local Ultraframe installer Forest Edge Home Improvements, the family decided to investigate their options for upgrading the conservatory and making it a liveable part of their home. Mrs Paul explained about their decision to upgrade their conservatory with a Hybrid Roof:
“We were very pleased to discover the Hybrid Roof roofing system. After living with an old conservatory that was often cold, we liked that the roof was insulated to stop the heat loss. Also internally the roof could be plastered so seamlessly fitting with the rest of our home and not looking like a traditional conservatory roof. The options available on Hybrid Roof are great, it was nice that we could design something bespoke to our exact needs by choosing the number and location of glass roof panels.”
By removing the door that previously separated the old conservatory from the house and creating a large opening, this allowed the space to flow and join with the rest of their home – making their existing downstairs living space much bigger thanks to the open-plan aspect.
The old dwarf wall on the end of the conservatory was replaced with a huge picture window, while the old French doors were replaced with contemporary bi-folding doors. The family chose striking anthracite grey frames, both internally and externally for an ultra-modern look which contrasts perfectly with the white plastered walls and vaulted plastered ceiling.
Finally, the old conservatory roof was replaced with a Hybrid Roof which features a mix of contemporary grey panels and glazed panels, coupled with a stunning plastered ceiling on the inside for a true room-like feel.
Explaining more about how the resulting new extension has transformed their home and the way they live in it, Mrs Paul said:
“We absolutely love our new extension! It’s effectively extended our house in a cost-effective way by enabling us to use the space already there. We were ambitious in knocking out the internal walls to make it part of the house but received great advice from Forest Edge on how best to do this. We now use it as a garden room so we can open the bi-fold doors and enjoy the garden (with a glass of wine!), and the children use it as a play space. It’s also a nice place for a really tall Christmas tree! The customer service from Forest Edge was fantastic – very practical advice and ideas on possible designs. There was no pushy sales, just practical, experienced and honest advice with detailed costings provided. The fitting team was very polite, efficient and tidy – all went very smoothly and in a much quicker timescale than building an extension. We have already recommended Forest Edge on many occasions.
The work done makes our home much more useable by allowing us to use space already there. We absolutely love it!”
